Your water heater works hard every day, but it’s easy to forget about until the hot water runs out or a leak shows up! A little maintenance goes a long way in keeping it running safely and efficiently. Here are a few quick tips from the Red Beard crew:
Flush once a year: Sediment builds up at the bottom of the tank over time, which makes your water heater work harder and less efficiently. Draining and flushing it yearly helps keep it clean and extends its lifespan.
Check the temperature: Set your thermostat around 120*F. That’s hot enough for comfort and safety but low enough to reduce energy use and prevent scalding.
Inspect for leaks: Take a quick look around the base of your water heater every month. If you see any water, corrosion, or rust, it’s time to have it serviced.
Red Beard’s Tip: A few minutes of maintenance each year can save you from a cold shower, or worse, a flooded garage! If it’s been a while since your last water heater check- up, give us a call. We’ll make sure it’s in tiptop condition!
